PUTTU

Kerala Puttu

Ingredients

Rice Flour (Puttu Podi) -1 cup
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Salt to taste

Directions

1. Take 1 cup coarsely ground rice flour(puttu podi) in a bowl.
2. Add 1/3 teaspoon salt or as required and mix well.
3. Add 1/3 cup of water little by little and mix the rice flour with the water with your fingers.
4.The rice flour should be moist but if there are lumps those should be crumbled.
5. Now add 2 to 3 cups of water in the Puttu maker and heat it up.
6. Place the perforated disc in the cylindrical vessel. Add 3 tablespoons of grated coconut into it.
7. Then add the puttu podi till it reaches half of the cylindrical container.
8. Put another layer of grated coconut(about 2 tablespoons).
9. Add a layer of Puttu podi and another lyer of grated coconut at the top.
10. Close the lid and steam it for about 5 to 6 minutes in medium flame. Steam will come out through the top vent of the cylindrical vessel.
11. Remove the cylindrical part from the base vessel and push out the puttu from the cylindrical vessel using a skewer.
12. Serve hot with kadala curry, stew or chicken or beef curry.
